Edward Meadows
(May 5, 1932 - February 1, 2010)
William E Meadows, Jr., 77 of
Huntington, WV, died Monday February 1, 2010 in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday February 4, 2010 at
Chapman's Mortuary Huntington with Rev. Andy Maggnusson officiating. Burial
will be in Woodmere Memorial Park. Bill was born May 5, 1932 in Huntington,
WV a son of William E. Meadows and Eloise B. Grass, who preceded him in
death. In addition, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis "Sis"
Burge, two brother-in-laws, Jimmie C. Swain and Warren Newman and his
father-in-law, Walter Wayne Mayse. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57
years and mother of his three sons, Anna Lee Meadows. Also surviving are his
three sons and their wives, William R. and Della R. Meadows, David W. and
Patricia A. Meadows and Michael K. and Kimberly C. Meadows. Surviving
grandchildren and their spouses and/or significant others include Kimberly
and Ben Harvey, Brian and Julie Meadows, Laura Meadows and Alex, John and
Jennifer Meadows, Kristi and Brian Campbell and Sean and Sherelyn Lynch.
Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, Dylan, Mackenzie, Zachary,
Lanie, Lily, Josslyn and Eli. In addition, his mother-in-law, Nellie Mayse,
his sister-in-law, Bernice Jean Beckett and his sister Patricia Swain
survive Mr. Meadows. Many nephews and nieces survive, also. Bill graduated
from Huntington East High School in May 1950. During his school years, he
was a Boy Scout, where he attained the Life Badge. He was also an Explorer
Scout. Upon graduation from Huntington East, he proudly enlisted in the
United States Marine Corps. In December 1950 he served his country by
deploying to the Korean Peninsula and fighting bravely and honorably in The
Korean War. After serving 13 months for his country, he was honorably
discharged with the rank of Buck Sergeant. Throughout his later years, he
proudly served the Marine Corps League in Huntington. Returning home, he
went to work at the International Nickel Company in May, 1952. After 35
years of service to INCO, he retired May, 1987. Bill was a member of the
Baptist Temple, Huntington, WV, since 1958. He served his Lord and his
church by serving on the Board of Trustees, Board of Finance and was also a
founding member of Baptist Temple's bus ministry. Among his civic duties, he
served several terms as president of the Monel Park Civic Association and
was a sitting board member of the Monel Park Public Service District.
Additionally, he was honored to be a duly appointed Kentucky Colonel. Bill
was an avid history buff, a bluegrass music fan and most importantly, loved
having his family at his side. Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary from
9:30 AM until service time on Thursday.
