Dr. Jack K. Mayes
(September 28, 1939 - July 15, 2011)



Dr. Jack K. Mayes, 71, of Huntington, WV, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. He was born September 28, 1939 in Lizemores, Clay County, WV a son of the late John E. Mayes and Juanita Morton Yoder. Two brothers, Jim Mayes and Bob Yoder and loving uncle and aunt, Cecil and Ruby Morton, also preceded him in death. He was the pastor at Cross Roads Baptist Church for 31 years; an Evangelist and Past Bible Instructor at Southland Bible College, Ashland, KY; and had a Prison Ministry and Radio Ministry “Souls Harvest” for over 40 years. He received his Doctor of Theology at Bethany Theological Seminary in June of 1987. He was a U.S. Navy Seabee and Patriot. Survivors include: his wife of over 50 years, Pat Mayes; a daughter, Veronica Mayes of Milton, WV; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike and Missy Mayes of Madison, WV, Steven Mayes of Prosper, TX, and Jonmark Mayes of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, Shelby, Noah, and Makayla of High Point, NC, Mitchel and Walker of Prosper, TX; and Lauren of Madison, WV; and a host of cousins and other family. He was loved and will be missed by his church family. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2011, at Cross Roads Baptist Church, Huntington, with Dr. Glenn Mathews officiating and Rev. B.C. Egnor and Dr. Arnold Adams, of Southland Bible College, assisting. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 9738. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday at the church. Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family.
