Richard Lee Pierce
(April 21-1929 - September 23, 2011)



Richard Lee Pierce, 82, of Huntington, WV, went home to be in the arms of angels, his wife and parents on Friday September 23, 2011. He was born April 21, 1929 in Huntington a son of the late Samuel Everett and Kathleen Grubbs Pierce. His wife, Wanda Marie Pierce, of 50 years also precedes him in death. He graduated from Huntington East and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War having served in the 1st Battalion, 26th infantry, and served with special services in Japan. After leaving the Army in 1953 he started working with INCO as a roller in the strip mill, working 33 years until retirement in 1986. Richard was also a member of V.F.W. Post 9738 in Guyandotte who will conduct military graveside rites. He is survived by a daughter, Debra Pierce Knott of Huntington; a son, Richard Lee Pierce, Jr., of Huntington; two sisters, Carol Yvonne Sheets of Cleveland, GA, and Kay Frances Adkins of Roanoke, VA; six grandchildren, John David Higginbotham, Eric Higginbotham, Aaron Higginbotham, Melissa Kathleen Murphy, Lindsay Rae Yeager, and Ashley Marie Knott; and eight great grandchildren, Sky Marie Higginbotham, Grant Scott Murphy, Dallas Sovine, Dustin Sovine, Avonn K. Booker, Haley Kathleen Murphy, Brody Pierce Higginbotham, and Emma Brooks Higginbotham. He was greatly loved and admired by his family and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday September 25, 2011 at Chapman’s Mortuary with Robert Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may visit the family after 1:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
