Richard Shane Vass
(February 17, 1956 - September 25, 2011)



Richard Shane Vass, 55, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday September 25, 2011 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Chapman’s Mortuary with Dr. Larry A. Greene officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. Shane was born February 17, 1956, in Huntington, a son of Richard Perdue and Carol Lynn Vass of Huntington. He graduated from Huntington East High School in 1974, having played both football and golf while in high school. He attended Marshall University and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Not only was he an avid golfer and hunter, he was very involved with youth sports in Huntington having volunteered for both League Six Little League and the Beverly Hills Youth Basketball League, and was a past president of Geneva Kent PTA. He was working for West Virginia Public Broadcasting, in Charleston as the general sales manager. Above all, his friends mostly knew him for his wonderful smile and his love of dancing. In addition to his parents, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Gary Cooper of Huntington; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason and Gentry Vass of Fairmont, WV, and Eric Vass of Huntington; a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and William Roseman of York, SC; two grandchildren, Sadie Blaire Vass and Jason Brooks Vass; and several nieces and nephews. He was also expecting his third grandchild, a girl, soon to be named Millie Shane Vass. Friends may call 5:00-8:00 PM Tuesday September 27, 2011 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington.
