Obituary

Prophet Joe David Houser, Jr.
(August 25, 1952 - April 27, 2015)

Prophet Joe David Houser, Jr., 62, of Huntington passed away Monday, April 27, 2015, at his residence. He was born August 25, 1952 in Kings Mountain, NC a son of the late Joe David Houser, Sr. and Betty Biddix Houser. He was also preceded in death by a daughter. He was an evangelist. Survivors include: a sister, Wanda Sue Hawkins; a brother, Phillip Houser; two grandchildren; and his friend, Diana Hamilton. Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 pm Friday, May 8, 2015, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 pm Friday at Spring Hill Cemetery. Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family. Prophet David Houser loved the Lord, and he also loved preaching the gospel. He started preaching at an early age. He held many tent meetings, preached in many churches, and he was known to use his prophetic anointing wherever he went. He was a very well dressed man and sometimes you could see him coming a mile long. (smiles) His suits were very colorful and he wore shoes to match every suit. Later, because of his illness, he was not able to travel, he was bedfast for a long time. Many times when he was able to hold his meetings, he would often call me and ask me if I would assist him in service by singing and sometimes playing the keyboard. He could say “Sister Johnson” better than anybody I ever heard call my name, even if it wasn’t about church. If he needed me to bake him some brownies or banana nut bread, he would call me and ask me to fix him something. I also assisted him many times by taking him to his doctor’s appointments. Whatever I could do to help him, I was there for him. I have known Prophet Houser over 20 years. About five years ago, he asked me to run Revival for him at his church on 14th. Street West and of course, I accepted the invitation. When he became so ill that he could no longer hold meetings, he said “Sister Johnson, I will be able to preach again.” That was his desire. He told me about a week before his passing that he drove by himself to North Carolina and got a chance to preach, but he had to have someone to bring him back home because he wasn’t able to drive back. At least he got his desire. He would often say to me, “Sister Johnson, I just want the Lord to come and take me home because I am so tired. Well, a few days ago, Prophet Houser took off his earthly suit and put on his Heavenly suit, he took off his corruptible and put on his incorruptible. He is now in a place where there is no more crying, no more dying, no more pain, no more sickness, and no more sorrow. Prophet Houser will be truly missed by all who loved him. Rest In Peace Prophet Houser.
