Obituary

DORA MARIE CHARLES
(June 28, 1929 - January 12, 2015)



DORA MARIE JONES CHARLES, 85, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at her home in Asheboro, N.C. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va., with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. in the Chapman's Mortuary Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Tom Barton and Pastor Brady Lipscomb. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton, W.Va. Dora was the daughter of the late Burton B. Jones and Verda Ratliff Jones and Elsie Ackerman Jones. She was a member of the 18th Street United Baptist Church in Huntington where she was active with the youth, a Sunday school teacher and a piano player. Dora retired as an executive assistant at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Huntington, W.Va. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her husband, Orion "OD" Charles, daughters Susan Charles, Darlene Charles, son Terry Charles, sisters Pauline Reed, Rachel Smith, brother Eldon Jones, and grandson Brett Workman. Mrs. Charles is survived by her children, Doug Charles (Janie), Connie Barton (Tom), Mona Workman (John), John Charles, sister, Joyce Ruble, Marylene LeFurgy (Norman), brother Walter "Johnny" Jones (Charlene), Dale Jones; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many others that called her "Maw Maw."
