Obituary

Joseph I. Ciccarelli
(February 9, 1957 - January 22, 2018)



Joseph I. Ciccarelli died January 22, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 9, 1957 the son of the late Angelo J. and Roma M. Ciccarelli. After graduation from Oak Glen High School in New Cumberland, WV, Mr. Ciccarelli earned a bachelors’ degree in Criminal Justice from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. He joined the Huntington Police Department in 1977 and completed assignments in the Administrative, Patrol and Special Investigative Bureaus. In 1984 he was appointed as an FBI Special Agent and after the completion of New Agents Training, was assigned to the St. Louis Field Office. In 1987 Mr. Ciccarelli was transferred to the Miami Field Office and held various investigative and supervisory positions before his return to West Virginia in 1998. He was assigned supervisory roles in the Huntington and Charleston Resident Agencies and served as North East Region Team Leader for the FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team. Following retirement from the FBI, Mr. Ciccarelli served as an investigator with the WV Supreme Court of Appeals prior to his appointment as Chief of the Huntington Police Department in November 2014. He is survived by his son Joseph Corey, daughter-in-law Megan and granddaughter Josie all of Mooresville, NC; his companion Dr. Kimberly D. Triplett along with her children and grandchildren. Mr. Ciccarelli is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Gold Star Lodge 65, and West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association where he was just beginning his 3rd year of service on the board of directors, International Association of Chiefs of Police, FBI Agents Association and Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be directed to the City of Huntington Foundation to the credit of the Huntington Police Department or to Hospice of Huntington. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell, WV. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
