Vincent James Sloan "Rusty"
(1947 - January 23, 2018)



Vincent James Sloan “Rusty” – It is with great sadness that the family of Retired Command Master Chief Vincent James Sloan, of Barboursville, West Virginia, informs you that he has passed away from Alzheimer’s, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the age of 70. He served in the U.S Navy, from 1965 to 1993 both active duty and reservist, with deployments to Vietnam and Desert Storm as a Corpsman. He was awarded the Navy Cross, two Purple Hearts, and U.S. Navy Special Warfare Insignia (SEAL), Medal with Valor Device and Strike Flight 18 Missions, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Commendation x2, Navy Unit Commendation x3, Meritorious Unit Commendation x3, Battle E Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct, Navy Reserve Ribbon x3, Fleet Marine Force Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service with FMF Device, Southwest Asia Service with FMF Device x2, Armed Forces Reserve, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal, Liberation of Kuwait Medal, Navy Expert Rifle Marksmanship Medal, Navy Expert Pistol Marksmanship Medal. He was employed with the Central Intelligence Agency for 25 plus years. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason of the Blue Lodge in Arlington, Virginia then later transferred to Barboursville, West Virginia. His two greatest loves were his devotion to family and the love for his country. He is survived by his Wife of 46 years, Helen Cary Sloan, Daughter, Danielle Sloan Fields (Jason Fields), Son, SFC Richard Sloan (Denise Sloan), Brother, Robert Sloan, Grandchildren, Emmah Fields, Madelynn Fields, Alexis Sloan, and Reese Sloan. With special thanks to his Niece, Caryn Smith, for the extraordinary care she provided to her Uncle Rusty. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel in Barboursville, West Virginia at 1 p.m. with Pastor Evan Arkell officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Burial services will immediately follow at White Chapel Memorial Garden in Barboursville, West Virginia.
