ObituaryGeorge Daniel Clark
George Daniel “Danny” Clark, 92, of Huntington, WV, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Barboursville First United Methodist Church, by Pastor Kerry Bart. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville. There will also be visitation at the church one hour before services. Danny was born July 30, 1925 in Huntington, one of 12 children of the late George F. and Oddie Holland Clark. He graduated from Barboursville High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the Navy. After his tour of duty ended, he returned home and played football at Marshall College under Coach Cam Henderson. During that time, he played in the Tangerine Bowl in 1947 and was Co-Captain of the 1949 team. He has the distinction of teaching, coaching football, basketball, and track, or being an administrator in all four area high schools: Barboursville High School, Huntington East High School, Huntington High School, and Milton High School. Later in his career, he was Transportation Director and Director of Building & Grounds. He retired from the Cabell County School System in 1985 and later was elected and served as a member of the Cabell County Board of Education. He was extremely proud of being elected to the Marshall University Athletic Hall of Fame for football and recently to the Huntington Wall of Fame. Clark's hobbies include: fishing at Kelley's Island, OH, beekeeping, hunting, gardening, and raising beagles as hunting dogs. He has been a member of the Barboursville First United Methodist church for 60+years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lucy Tomblin Clark. He is survived by one sister, Norma Adkins of Huntington; one son Stephen (Leoda) Clark of Lexington KY, one daughter Brenda (Greg) Bunn of Huntington; four grandchildren, Brandon (Virginia) Bunn of Hurricane, WV, Whitney (Matt) Stead of Barboursville, Kristin (Tommy) Doan or Nicholasville, KY, and Danielle (Wes) Johnson of Mayfield, KY; eight great-grandchildren, Lucy, Lennon, and Dylan Stead, Riley and Caden Doan, and Drew, Eli, and Clay Johnson; and known as a "favorite uncle" to many nieces and nephews. He touched and influenced many lives throughout his 92 years. The motto he lived by and posted in his various offices was "Firm, Fair, and Friendly."
