Obituary

Calvin Nida
(September 11, 1926 - January 24, 2018)



REV. CALVIN NIDA was born September 11, 1926, in Salt Rock, W.Va., and went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2017. Calvin was preceded in death by his second wife, Janet (Lobaldo) Nida; first wife, Laura (Napier); parents Bertha and Herbert Nida; brothers Herman Wetzel, Jesse James, Herbert, Earnest Benthru (Jack), and half-brother Earl Nida; three sisters Lillian (Lidge), Mellie, and Norma; and two half-sisters Este and Idabelle. Calvin is survived by four children, Kimberly Eastman, Alyce Rowland, Rachel Harmon, and Brandon Nida; grandchildren Constance Morris, Elsa Harmon, Alice Harmon, Joseph Harmon, Mathias Harmon, Miles Rowland, and Julia Rowland; great-grandchildren Elijah Eastman and Caroline Morris; and nephew Ray Nida. Calvin had many nieces and nephews. Calvin ran a produce business for four years, hauling fresh produce all over the United States, then joined the U.S. Army and left to serve our country during the Korean War. Calvin was the owner of Nida's Used Cars on Route 10 near Salt Rock for more than 40 years. Calvin became an ordained minister at Glory Way Church by brother Herb Nida, Herman Berry and Aurie Gue, and later he was pastor at multiple churches in Cabell and Lincoln counties and preached the Gospel for many years. Calvin also attended Good Shepherd Church under Pastor Jason Black. A visitation and memorial service will be held at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville starting at noon Saturday, January 27, 2018, with Rev. Jason Black officiating. A burial service immediately following at 3 p.m. at Baylous Cemetery, with special remarks by Eugene Arnold.
