Obituary
Mary Ann Gothard
(January 30, 2018)
We "arise and call her blessed."
MARY ANN
GOTHARD, the beloved wife of Lyle Gothard, passed away
peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
She was the devoted mother of Anise and Rocky Nash, Lyla Gothard, John and
Janet Gothard, and Lisa and Paul Shaffer. Her grandchildren, Ginny Marie
Young, Tyler Gothard, Jordan and Jered Shaffer, and great-grandchildren,
Lane and Luke Shaffer, were special gifts from God, as well as many nieces,
nephews and children who touched her life. Mary Ann, the firstborn child of
Gladys and Kermit Dillon, felt blessed to have her brothers and sisters,
Jimmy and Carol Dillon, Jerry and Judy Dillon, Susie and Larry Fry and
Sharon and John Blake. Born with a servant's heart, Mary Ann will also be
missed by many other family and friends who enjoyed her cooking; the fruits
of her garden; her nursing at "Aunt Mary's hospital"; and her caregiving
throughout the years. At 18 years of age, she started her work career
assisting Dr. Bourne in Barboursville, W.Va., to deliver babies and perform
other office procedures. Continuing her service to others, she was employed
by the Cabell County Board of Education as a school cook who made those
"yummy rolls"; caring for children as a bus aide; and finally retiring as a
secretary at the Vo-Tech Center. She was a longtime active member of Living
Stone Baptist Church. Even with advancing dementia, Mary Ann was able to
proclaim her faith by writing this sentence for her physician, "The Lord is
my Savior." Her children ask that you join them to celebrate a life well
lived in the service of God at
Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, W.Va., on
Thursday, February 1, 2018, from 6 to 9 p.m. or at her funeral on Friday,
February 2, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., to be followed by her entombment at
White Chapel Memorial
Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of
Huntington, The Gideons or the service organization of your choice. With
grateful hearts, her children also wish to thank the many family members,
friends, physicians and nurses who have helped along this final journey.
"... let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31
