Obituary

Lester L. "Rabbit" Nida
(September 19, 1926 - April 1, 2014)



Lester L. “Rabbit” Nida, 87, of Huntington, widower of Doris Jean Nida, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Chapman’s Mortuary with Minister Alan C. Cole officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born September 19, 1926 in West Hamlin, WV, a son of Marion Lloyd and Dorothy Fugate Nida. A sister, Lois McCoy and brother, Marion Lloyd Nida, Jr. also preceded him in death. Les was a veteran of both the US Navy and US Army having served in both WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Twenty-Sixth Street Church of Christ and was a retired Procurement Officer for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Survivors include two sons, Lester “Rusty” Nida and wife Abigail of Proctorville, OH, and Robert Kevin Nida of Huntington; three grandchildren, Melissa Thompson and husband Aaron Thompson of Huntington, Katherine “Kate” Barrick and husband Matthew Barrick of Cincinnati, OH, and Matthew David Nida of Huntington; a great grandson, William Barrick; a sister, Clarice “Tots” Thompson of Clarksville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. The family has asked those who wish can make donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA). Friends may call 5:00-7:00 pm Friday at Chapman’s Mortuary. Huntington.
