Obituary

HARVEY POWERS JR.
(April 24, 2014)


Harvey Powers, Jr., 84, of Parker, CO, formerly of Lavalette, WV, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 3, 1930, in Kingston, WV, a son of the late Harvey Benton and Josie Fisher Powers. His wife, Ruth Elizabeth Powers, a son, James Arnold Powers; a sister, Loraine Levine; and a brother, Arnold Powers, also preceded him in death. He was retired from the C&O Railroad with 30 years of service; was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War; and was a member of Florence Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Ritchie, and her husband Ed of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Dr. Harvey Powers and his wife, Beverly of Parker, CO; Sam Powers and his wife Amy of Churchville, MD; a sister, Mabel Klein of Proctorville, OH; seven grandchildren, Jessica Powers, Courtney Powers, Hannah Powers, Sean Powers, Zack Powers, Jimmy Hale, and Julie Mount; and a great grandson, Justin Mount. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00am Friday, May 2, 2014 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Greg Edens officiating. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with military graveside rites conducted by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16. Visitation will be from 9:15am to 10:00 am Friday at Chapman’s Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Florence Memorial United Methodist Church.
