Obituary



Howard L. Powers of Aurora, Colorado passed away on June 1, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 12, 1927, the son of Jonas and Catherine Powers. Graveside funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday June 10, 2016 at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington with Chaplin Jim Goebel officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ralph and Norman, a sister Helen Powers and his first wife Doris Brown Powers. He is survived by his wife Ann Marie Powers, two daughters Debra Gant and Susan McTheny (Mark), three grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Howard served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-46; graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1953, becoming a registered pharmacist and employed in West Virginia and Ohio for the next 43 years. He was a member of the Baptist Temple, the Guyandotte Chapter of the Masonic Lodge, the Knights Templar, the Beni Kedem Temple, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 1100 AM Friday at the cemetery. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
