Obituary



Robert S. Miller, 86, of Glenwood, WV., died Sunday, January 1, 2017 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor Tim Shuff officiating. Burial will be in Mays Saunders Cemetery. He was born March 1, 1930 in Huntington a son of the late Keith Charles and Willie Mae Baker Miller. Other loved ones that have preceded him in death were the mother of his children, Sonya Carol Miller and his companion of 25 years, Madge P. Smith. Robert was an U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of the Sunrise United Methodist Church. He retired as a Captain from the Huntington Fire Department and was still serving as Assistant Deputy Chief for the Ohio River Road Volunteer Fire Department making him having served over 65 years of dedicated fire service, having also held many offices at various fire organizations in WV and Ohio. Survivors include four daughters, Jennelle Nelson and husband, Jerry Nelson of Ona, Sherrie Barber and husband, Kim Barber of Orient, OH, Robin Saunders of Glenwood, and Cammie Scott and husband, Davis Scott of Onancock, VA; a son, Bruce Miller and wife, Darlene Miller of Glenwood; 11 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Grandson. The family extends a heartfelt Thank-You to Dr. Ralph Stevens for his years of care and to the nurses at St. Mary's Medical Center. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to the Ohio River Road Volunteer Department at P.O. Box 266, Lesage, WV, 25537, or to Sunrise United Methodist Church at Route 1 Box 82 Glenwood, WV 25520. Family will receive friends 4:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Chapman's Mortuary.
