Obituary



Robert Lee ("Bob") Newman, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the age of 78 after a long illness. Bob was one of five children born to parents James and Goldie Newman on October 7, 1938, in Cabell County, WV. After graduating from Guyan Valley High School with the Class of 1956, he joined the US Marine Corps and served in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, he married Shirley Nelson Newman. Together, they had one daughter, Teresa Newman Butler. His wife, Shirley, succumbed to cancer in 2003. Bob remarried Judith Gayle (Frye) in 2007. Bob retired from Inco, commonly known as the "Nickel Plant." He also operated a heating and air conditioning service for many years. He was an active member of the Green Valley Baptist Church where he loved to sing. He was a faithful supporter of many charities. Bob is survived by his wife, "Judy"; daughter, Teresa; brother, Fred Newman; sister, Drema Landacre; grandchildren, Ryan Abbess, Erin Mayes and Brad Butler; great grandchildren, Aubrey Paige and Allie Marie; and nieces, Sandy Coombs, Rhonda Groves, Angela Williams, Amber Newman, Chrissy and Laura Landacre. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy, David and Doug; and nephew, David. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Huntington City Mission. Visitation with the family will be held at Chapman's Mortuary on Tuesday, Jan. 31st from 6-8 p.m.
