Obituary



Sgt. Lisa Ann Pennington, 53, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in River's Bend Healthcare, South Point, OH. She was born February 15, 1964 in Ashland, KY a daughter of the late Ennis Pennington, Jr. and Dova Mae Vanover Pennington. A nephew, Brent Pennington, also preceded her in death. Lisa was a teacher in Greenup County Schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of Desert Storm, Desert Shield, serving in Kaiserslautern, Germany. She graduated from Paul Blazer High School; from Morehead State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and from Marshall University with a Master's Degree in Education. She was a Baptist by faith and enjoyed geocaching and UK Basketball. She coached youth basketball, soccer and softball in Ashland. Survivors include her life partner, Michele "Shelly" Adkins; her siblings, Sue Pennington of Chicago, IL, Steve Pennington and his wife Neena of Lexington, KY, Mark Pennington and his wife Marlene of Proctorville, OH and Patricia Lynn Pennington and her husband, Guy Thomas Hoover of Houston, TX; two nephews, Eddie Pennington and Brad Pennington; a niece, Jennifer Pennington; and several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank River's Bend Healthcare, Hospice of Huntington, and Huntington Veterans Administration Medical Center staff for their loving care of Lisa. A memorial service will be conducted 6:00 pm Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Beverly Sharp, ALP officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Greenup County, KY.
