Gene Oliver Haer
(April 28, 1937 - November 7, 2011)



Gene Oliver Haer, 74, went to his heavenly reward on Monday, November 7, 2011 at his home in Point Pleasant. Born April 28, 1937, he was the son of the late Oliver Henry and Beulah Belle (Parsons) Haer. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ann Rose Haer and Father-In-law, Boyd Schwarz. Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene (Schwarz) Haer, daughter, Rebecca Jean (Becky) Haer, son John Oliver and wife Teresa Haer and the light of his life, Benjamin Oliver Haer of Huntington, WV. Also surviving are his Mother-In-Law, Garnet Schwarz, Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law, Sharon and Doug Pafford of Moneta, VA, Niece, Meg (Barton) Phillips, of Chantilly, VA, Nephew, Ken Pafford, Kabul, Afghanistan, Great Nephews, Cole, Tyler and Wyatt Phillips, also by many cousins and a host of friends. Gene graduated from Buffalo High School in 1955 where he played basketball, baseball and was a member of the band. He was a former Mayor and Town Recorder of the Town of Buffalo along with being a Little League Baseball coach and volunteer fire fighter. He was retired from the Mason County Board of Education Transportation Department, co-owner of H & S Sales and Service, Camp Conley, and worked for 23 years with his father at O. H. Haer & Son Garage, in Buffalo. He was a member of Bellemead United Methodist Church where he served as song leader and choir director for many years. He was a Sunday School teacher, trustee and served on various church committees. He loved to sing Gospel Music. He was an organizing leader of the Haer Bears 4-H Club, West Virginia 4 H All-Stars, member of the Point Pleasant Lions Club and member of the Point Pleasant Battle Days Committee. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to our church family, friends and loved ones for their support and comfort. Also a special thanks to Dr. Stephan Serfontein and Staff, Pleasant Valley Hospital Home Health nurses and Gene’s Rite Aid girls. Visitation will be Thursday, November 10th from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bellemead U. M. Church, 510 Burdette St., Point Pleasant, WV. Services under the direction of Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, WV, will be held Friday, November 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Bellemead U. M. Church, Point Pleasant, WV., with the Rev. James Lawson and the Rev. Bobby Woods officiating. Burial will follow service at Kirkland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Bellemead U. M. Church Memorial Fund at the above address or the Mason County Community Foundation Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 565, Ripley, WV 25271.
