James W. "Woody" or "Doc" Lafon
(January 20, 1930 - November 17, 2011)



James W. a.k.a. “Woody” or “Doc” Lafon, 81, of Huntington, WV, died Thursday November 17, 2011 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 PM Sunday November 20, 2011 at Chapman’s Mortuary Huntington with Pastor Dennis Morrello officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Jim was born January 20, 1930 in Cabell Co., WV a son of the late C. T. & Maryjane Bowen Lafon. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea and retired from the Herald-Dispatch after 46 years of service. He was a member & Deacon of The Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one son James Michael Lafon, 5 brothers Clay, Ike Roy, Earl & Tommy Lafon & two sisters Hazel Thomas & Virgie Fitzpatrick. Survivors include his wife Sylvia Ruth Stewart Lafon, one daughter & son-in-law Pama Kay & James Bernard Poindexter of Mt. Airy, MD, one son & daughter-in-law James Gregory & Angie Lafon of Huntington, 6 grandchildren David Michael Poindexter, Jeremy Stewart Lafon, Carey Marie Lafon, Johnna & Megan Poindexter, and Haley Martin, 8 great grandchildren, one brother Rush Lafon of NC., and a special niece Jennifer Martin. Friends may call after 12:30 PM until service time on Sunday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
