Obituary

Luther Lee Carpenter
(June 20, 1930 - May18, 2015)



Luther Lee Carpenter, age 84, died peacefully on May 18, 2015, in Huntington, WV. He was born on June 20, 1930, on Canal Road in Fairfield Township, Butler County, OH, to William Andrew Carpenter and Dorothy Irene (Gau) Carpenter. He married Julia Margaret Osborne on April 14, 1951 in the Grace Methodist Parsonage in Hamilton, OH. He is survived by his wife Julia; his son, Rodney Lee Carpenter and wife, Barbara of Celina, OH; and daughters, Renée Margaret Warren and husband, Michael of Eagle Rock, VA, and Yvonne Carpenter of Barboursville, WV. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Andrew (Rebecca), Kellee, Michael (Julie), and Ashlee; two great grandchildren, McKinley and Anderson; two brothers, Wilbur of Coldwater, MI, and David (Glenda) of Randleman, NC; and sister, Irene Hurst of Mooresville, NC. Luther served as Pvt. 1st class in the US Army from 1948-1950. He retired as Assistant Manager of Engineering from CSX Railroad after 36 years’ service, which also included work on the B&O and C&O Railroads. He was an honorary member of the Railroad Union. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday May 21, 2015 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Michael R. Warren officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Veteran’s Honor Guard Post 16, Huntington, will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.
