Obituary

James Calvin Dempsey
(April 22, 1934 - May 28, 2015)


Rev. James Calvin Dempsey, 81, of Lavalette, WV, widower of Peggy Ann Dempsey, passed away Thursday May 28, 2015 at the Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 22, 1934 in Lavalette, WV, and was raised by the late Anna and John Wick. Others preceding him in death were his four brothers, George, Donald, Clifton, and Claude Dempsey; and his special cousin Pauline Wick. James was a US Army Veterans, and acquired a Masters in Divinity. He was a retired Methodist Minister having served many counties in WV and in Lawrence County, Ohio. He also had worked for the Corp of Engineers and Armco Steel. He was a member of the WV Methodist Conference, and the Lavalette United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Church of Caldwell, OH; a son, John Dempsey of Lavalette; granddaughter, Jo Ann Shaffer and husband, Jared, of Dayton, PA; and two great grandchildren, Faith Ann Church of Caldwell, OH, and Weylin Shaffer of Dayton, PA. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, June 1, 2015, at the White Chapel Mausoleum with Carol K. McKay officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
