Thomas Joe Childers
(September 11, 1928 - November 9, 2010)


Mr. Thomas Joe Childers, 82, of Huntington, WV passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010. He was born September 11, 1928, in Huntington, WV a son of the late Charles Ross and Ada Drown Childers. Tom joined the Marine Corp, with his best friend, Keith Gallaher. Then as a young man, Tom completed his apprenticeship in the C & O Railroad shops, worked as a machinist at Houudaille Industries, and also worked at West Virginia Pump, all in Huntington, and worked at the Volkswagen Stamping Plant in South Charleston. Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Martha Grace Gillespy Childers. He was also preceded in death by his sister Jeanne Childers Moore, and his brothers, Jack and Charles (Bud) Childers, Jr. Tom is survived by a son David Childers and his wife Kathy, of Ona; a daughter, Linda Childers and her husband Rick of Ona; his granddaughter Jessica Childers Walden and her husband David; his grandson, Hunter Childers; and his great grandchildren Hayden and Adelyn Grace Walden; his sister, Polly Stephens of Charleston, WV; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Tom loved spending time with his many friends, neighbors, co-workers, church family, and hunting buddies. Tom devoted the last decade of his life to the loving care of his wife, Martha. The family would like to thank Cora Lykins for providing caregivers Doris Ross, Lynn Davis, Sharon Adkins, and others ..our angels form Heaven. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. William Hayes, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park. Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary from 6 p m until 8 pm Friday, November 12, 2010. In lieu of flowers, please share your love with a gift to Hospice of Huntington, Beverly Hills United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or the Transverse Myelitis Association.
