Clarence H. Wheeler
(July 12, 1927 - November 16, 2010)



Clarence H. Wheeler, 83, of Huntington, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born July 12, 1927 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Clarence Hampton Wheeler, Sr. and Charlotte Newman Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by: a brother, Wylie Wheeler and a special brother-in-law, Dr. Gary Tolley. He retired from Huntington Alloys, after 35 years of service; was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II; and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church and was a life member of American Legion Post 93, DAV Chapter 2 and VFW Post 9738, whose members will conduct military graveside rites. Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Betty L. Chain Wheeler; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gordon Patrick and Judy Wheeler of Roanoke, VA and David Matthew Wheeler of Huntington; two grandchildren, Rachel Garay and her husband, Chantry and Jonathan Wheeler, all of Roanoke, VA; ten grandchildren adopted from Roanoke, China, and Vietnam, Sarah, Rebekah, Seth, Nathan, Annalise, Andrew, Luke, Caleb, Jordan, and Jacob Wheeler, all of Roanoke; a sister, Mariam Mitchell of Shreveport, LA; a sister-in-law, Wanda Tolley of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Hubert Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday at Chapman's Mortuary.
