Obituary



Richard "Dick" Perdue Vass, 78, of Huntington, husband of Carol Lynn Vass passed away Saturday Nov. 7, 2015 at St. Mary's Medical Center. He recently retired from West Virginia Division of Highways after a long career and previously in various supervisory capacities in the construction industry. He was the son of the late Frank Eric and Kathryn Perdue Vass. He is also preceded in death by his beloved son Shane Vass and his sister Patricia Vass Sale and her husband Jack Sale and his brother Robert E. Vass, Sr. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his daughter Cheryl Roseman, grandchildren Jason (Gentry) Vass, Eric Vass, Jenny (Jay) Morlachetta and Richie Porter, great-grandchildren Averie Porter, Mia Morlachetta, Sadie, Brooks and Millie Shane Vass, and a sister-in-law, Margaret D. Vass. He is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He will always be remembered as a lifelong outdoorsman and beyond successful hunter, fisherman and at the same time a savior of injured animals including among others his blind pet squirrel Priscella. Dickie was one of a kind and he will always be remembered for his sense of humor bringing a smile to the faces of all who knew him. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday November 10, 2015 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday November 11, 2015 at Chapman's Mortuary with Dr. Larry A. Greene officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
