Obituary



Guy D. Meadows 82, of Huntington passed away September 20, 2016 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Born February 13, 1934 in Huntington WV to the late Viola Vernette Meadows and Guy D. Meadows. He was preceded in death by his six older sisters, Doris, Evelyn, Joann, Violet, Mildred, and Geneva. Guy graduated from Huntington High School. Following graduation he served four years in the Air Force 1952-1956. He was in Germany for three years and had the opportunity to see that part of the world. He said, "It was a wonderful experience". After returning to the States he attended Marshall University and completed his Masters degree. Guy was a Licensed Psychologist. In the 1960 years he was Director of the Vocational Rehabilitation Department at the Huntington State Hospital. At this time he completed a Psychiatric Internship in Boston for Rehabilitation Counselors under the direction of the Department of Psychiatry of the Harvard Medical School. After returning to Huntington he worked for the Cabell County School system for many years until retirement in 1994. He always enjoyed the students and many friendships at all the schools. Guy was a man of great faith and enjoyed all of God's creation. We will forever miss his kindness and love of family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Harbour Meadows, a daughter and son-in-law Stefanie and Shawn Adkins and son Eric. He loved his little granddaughters Sidney and Paige. He leaves behind several nephews, nieces and cousins. Visitation will be 6-8 pm at Chapmans Mortuary Friday September 23, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday September 24, 2016 at Chapmans Mortuary with Rev. James Jobe and Rev. Keith Weibe officiating. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville with Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 conducting Military graveside rites.
