Obituary



Elaine Smith Wilcox, 92, of Huntington WV, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at 2 pm, at Baptist Temple Church, on 9th Ave. and 21st St., by Pastor Andy Magnusson. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, 9 am, Monday, September 12. Elaine was born on July 17, 1924, in Huntington, WV, the daughter of the late James C. Smith and Mina M. Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dr. William B. Wilcox, as well as her sister Yvonne Burks and brother-in-law Lloyd Burks. She is survived by her brother J. Roger Smith (Jinx), her sons, Mark and Eddie Wilcox, as well as her grandchildren and spouses: Susan Wilcox and friend David Beckett, Phillip Wilcox (Julie), Melissa Wilcox, Kate Rife, John Wilcox, Dan Wilcox, and Jedd Wilcox (Hanna), and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her beautiful cat Serena. Elaine was a homemaker, Cabell Huntington Hospital Volunteer, and an ASPCA Member. Elaine worked for Dr. William Kopp, Island Creek Coal Company, and in later years, as a Realtor with Smith Realty Co. Inc. As a very loving mother, she babysat for many friends and family members. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House who cared for Elaine. Friends may call from 1 pm to 2 pm prior to the funeral. Contributions may be made to Baptist Temple Church or the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
