Obituary

Rev. Caudle Adkins, Jr.
(May 17, 1927 - June 26, 2014)

Rev. Caudle Adkins, Jr., 87, of Huntington, WV, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with his son, Dr. C. J. Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, with Military Graveside Rites by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16. Pallbearers will be Benji Adkins, Joshua Adkins, Caleb Adkins, William Adkins, Bob Stidham, and Merle Wooten. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gary Gilbert, Mitch Smith, Larry Kendall, and Dr. Mike Arvinitis. Caudle was born May 17, 1927 in Dehue, Logan County, WV a son of the late Caudle Adkins, Sr. and Victoria Pack Adkins. A sister, Diane Presley and two brothers, Millard Adkins and Samuel Adkins, also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ruth Stidham Adkins; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. C.J. Adkins (Linda) of Ashland, KY, Bruce Adkins (Sandra) of Huntington, and Carl Adkins (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jay (Michelle) Adkins, Benji (Leigh Anne) Adkins, Joshua Adkins, Caleb Adkins, Kate Adkins and Alex Adkins; two step grandchildren, Merle (Erica) Wooten and Lee (James) Dalton; five great grandchildren, Quint, Will, Canon, Asher, and Nathan Adkins; and six step great grandchildren, Amber, Katie, and Austin Wooten, and Wesley, Ethan and Olivia Dalton. Caudle was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was retired from INCO. His life was devoted to his family and his ministry. For more than 65 years, he faithfully served his Lord, serving as pastor of several churches in West Virginia and Ohio and he traveled hundreds of thousands of miles sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in Revival meetings from Michigan to Florida. For the last 35 years, he has hosted “The Lighthouse” Radio Ministry on WEMM FM 107 in Huntington. He was a founding member of Central Free Will Baptist Church in Huntington and at the time of his death, was the longest tenured ordained minister in the West Virginia Free Will Baptist Association. In recent years, he faithfully attended Westmoreland Baptist and First Altizer Free Will Baptist Churches. Caudle was raised as a child of the Great Depression. He worked hard to provide for his family and he often did unheralded charitable acts for others. He was a man of integrity. He touched thousands of lives. He had a joy and zest for life and like Will Rogers, “Never met a man he didn’t like”. He loved to entertain children and adults alike with magic tricks, corny jokes, telling stories, showing off his Mickey Mouse watch and giving away pictures of his “Pride and Joy”. For many years he was a fixture at Marshall University football games, celebrating after every Herd scoring drive, “Looking Good!” He will be missed and fondly remembered as a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, neighbor and friend. Our comfort is in knowing the truth of the statement that closed each of his radio broadcasts for the past 35 years. “Remember, Christians will never see each other for the last time.” Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Chapman’s Mortuary.
