Dr. Ralph H. Hall
(February 2, 1925 - June 10, 2014)



Dr. Ralph H. Hall, Major, U.S. Army (Ret.) and Professor Emeritus of Marshall University College of Education, 89, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Midland Meadows Assisted Living. He was born February 2, 1925 in Lawrence County, Ohio the son of George Dewey Hall and Lib Ehret Whitley Hall. He attended schools in Chesapeake, OH and the Albert Galatin Jenkins High School (Marshall College Lab School). He moved to Huntington in 1940 and graduated from Huntington East in 1942. At age seventeen, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps Reserve and upon the completion of his freshman year at Marshall College, he was activated into flight training. He subsequently flew combat missions to France and Germany as a member of the U.S. Army Eighth Air force. He received campaign battle stars for Rhineland and Central Europe. He survived one crash as well as the German flak and jets. Of his original crew, four were KIA�s and three were POW�s. Dr. Hall�s professional training and career included degrees from Marshall University and West Virginia University. He was a high school mathematics teacher in Jackson and Cabell Counties in West Virginia and president of the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. His college teaching at Marshall included the years 1965 to 1991. He and Kathleen, along with five other couples, were the original owners of Ashton Riverview Campground. Dr. Hall was married to Kathleen Marlyn Wallace in 1944 and was blessed by a happy marriage of nearly 52 years before her death in 1996. He married Mildred Martin Chapman in 2000 and enjoyed her love and companionship until her death in 2011. He also enjoyed the love and companionship of her five daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Chapman (Bill-deceased), Brenda (David) Hanson, Anita (Rick) Estep, Marion (Ed) Jacobson, and Dora Chapman (Mike) Wright; grandchildren, Bill (Tedra) Chapman, Todd Chapman, Charlie (Sheri) Johnson, Mark Chapman, Jennifer (Dr. J.B.) Marinacci, Joey (Jodi) Estep, Wes (Mandy) Wright, Amanda (Shawn) Henson, Candice Wright, Casey (Trey) Smith, Chad Jacobson, Holley Johnson, Drew Jacobson, Alyssa, Andrew and Addley Marinacci, Khloe Estep, Brycen Wright, and Kennedi Rae Brainard. Other survivors include a niece, Jennifer Lett May: a grand nephew, Mark May; and godchildren, Deborah Ramsey Burr (Bob), Rachel Ramsey Conner (Ken), and Bruce Ramsey. The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff of Midland Meadow Assisted Living who became a special part of his family. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Chapman�s Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Kim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, with military graveside rites conducted by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday at Chapman's Mortuary.
