Obituary
Earl Douglas Chambers
(December 22, 1930 -
June 14, 2014)
Earl Douglas Chambers,
83, died on June 14, 2014, escaping the bonds of a body weakened by
rheumatoid arthritis and a mind clouded by Alzheimer's disease. Born
in Stollings, West Virginia on December 22, 1930 to Earl and Audrey
Chambers, Doug and his brother Mike lived what they described as a "perfect
childhood" roaming the hills of Logan County. Doug left Logan County to
attend Marshall College (now Marshall University) in 1949, later earning a
B.A. in History. Drafted into the U. S. Army in 1953, Doug served as a
Psychiatric Technician at Walter Reed Army Hospital and the Military
District of Washington. Doug married Ann Koehler on July 15, 1953. Together
Ann and Doug had five children; Katherine Burt, Margaret Brooke, Jane
Audrey, Douglas Bradner, and Paul Earl. Sadly, Kathy died as a child.
Doug settled in Huntington and worked as a restaurant manager and later
owned a catering company. Doug and Ann lived happily, raising their children
and enjoying their grandchildren until Anns death in 2000. In 2004, Doug
married Mary Lee Godby, with whom he enjoyed his remaining days until
failing health separated them. Doug spent his last months in the home and
loving care of his daughter Jane, with the help of the entire family.
Doug is survived by his wife Mary Lee, his brother Mike Chambers; his
children and their spouses, Margy and Mike Kennedy, Jane and Ron Brownfield,
Doug and Janet Chambers, and Paul and Catherine Chambers; grandchildren Noah
Kennedy, Brooke Ann Cochran, Jared Brownfield, Aaron Brownfield, Caleb
Brownfield, Anna Chambers, Elizabeth Ann Chambers, Annie Brownfield, Rebecca
Chambers, and Charles Chambers; and great-grandchildren, Sam Cochran, Ian
Cochran, and Owen Kennedy. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00
to 8:00 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, West Virginia.
