Obituary

Aldene L. Adkins Barbour
(February 4, 1925 - June 13, 2014)



Aldene L. Adkins Barbour, age 89, of Huntington, widow of William N. "Bill" Barbour, entered eternal life Friday, June 13, 2014 at Hannah's House in Marietta, OH after a brief illness. She was born on February 4, 1925 in Huntington, WV, the daughter of the late Robert M. and Leva Adkins. Aldene graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1943. During WWII, she proudly supported the war effort through employment at the Sylvania Ammunitions plant. She later went on to work for McKesson Drug where she retired in 1977 with 19 years of service. She was a devout member of the former South Side United Methodist Church and served as an officer in the United Methodist Women's club for many years.  Aldene was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Adkins Jr.; an infant great-grandson Graham Albert Noe and brother in-law John Hite. She is survived by her son, Kent Alan (Donna Newton) Barbour of Vienna, WV; three grandchildren, Dr. Karie Anne "Annie" Barbour of Bridgewater, VA, Seth Alan Barbour of Troutman, NC, Kory Allison (David) Noe of Chattanooga, TN; a great-grandson Tate Owen Noe of Chattanooga, TN; and a sister Anna Hite of Ocala, FL. Additionally she is survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly, a very special niece Sue Harris Baughman of Bear, DE and dear friends Helen Chapman and Roberta Ferguson. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by Hanna's House, 1417 Lancaster St., Marietta, OH 45750, or United Methodist Women. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor Michael S. Chapman, and Pastor Steven Hamrick officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. Friends may call one hour before services at Chapman's Mortuary.
