Eddie Viping Tao, 80, of San Diego, CA, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born September 8, 1937 in Shanghai, China a son of the late David Ya-Tshing Tao and Miranda Yung-Tsung Chang Tao. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from St. Louis University. Eddie was a research chemist for Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis, IN, for 29 years. In 2004, he moved to San Diego, CA, where he enjoyed golf and tennis year-round and had just recently moved to Barboursville, WV. Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Irene Ya-Chien Chen Tao; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Ann Tao of Barboursville and Rick and Tammy Tao of St. Louis, MO; his beloved grandchildren, Andrew Tao, Hollyn Tao, Alexis Tao, and William Tao; and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sally Tao of Tiburon, CA. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Mary's Medical Center for the excellent care and compassion for our father. A memorial service will be conducted 10:00 am Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Skip Seibel officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, April 13, 2018, at the funeral home.
