Roy Donald "Coconut" Copley
(September 24, 1930 - January 18, 2014)



Roy Donald “Coconut” Copley, 83, of Ona, WV, formerly of Huntington, WV, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born September 24, 1930 in Chesapeake, OH a son of the late Harold and Ethel Garnet Mannon Copley. A sister, Doris Jean Copley, also preceded him in death. He was an electrician with IBEW; was a member of Highlawn Church of Christ; and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Wanda Ferrell Copley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Jenette Copley of North Wilkesboro, NC and John and Marsha Copley of Ona, WV; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Josiah Copley and his wife, Lauren and Johanna Copley, all of North Carolina, Simon Copley and his daughter, Kori of Pt. Pleasant, WV, Joel Copley, his wife Megan and his son Ryan, all of Huntington, and Ethan Copley of Ona; a sister, Nancy Gilkerson of Huntington; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sue Copley of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Lisa Nicolls and Jane Hatfield. In accordance with his wishes, his body was donated to the Marshall University Medical School. Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Highlawn Church of Christ, Huntington, with his nephew, Minister Jake Copley officiating. A celebration of his life will follow the service where friends may visit with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highlawn Church of Christ, 27th Street and Latulle Ave., Huntington, WV 25702.
