Obituary



Mae "Lacreta" Nelson, 74, of Huntington, wife of Rev. Larry A. Nelson, Sr., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was born October 25, 1942 in Huntington, WV a daughter of the late Ira and Betty Ramsey Gillispie. Lacreta was a former insurance agent with Western Southern Insurance, and had worked for Corbin Ltd., and helped with South Western Head Start. She was always by her husband's side while gospel singing at nursing homes and at several different places around the area. She volunteered for the Make a Wish Foundation, and supported him through his ministry having last pastored at the 36 th Street Tabernacle, Guyandotte. In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and David Washington of Huntington, and Kristi and Denver Chaffin of Louisa, KY; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry A. Nelson, Jr. and Aimee Nelson of Chesapeake, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Kenneth Blake of Huntington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ira "Bub" Franklin Gillispie and Benja Gillispie of Huntington, and Jim and Deb Gillispie of Ona, WV; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Peter) DiMartino of Tarpon Springs, FL, Paige (Justin) Crowder of Chesapeake, OH, Jackie Nelson of Chesapeake, and Megan Chaffin and Madison Chaffin of Louisa, KY. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Chapman's Mortuary with the Rev. Rodney Hale officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may visit family after noon on Saturday at Chapman's Mortuary.
