Obituary


Jo Piper Dowdy, 85, of Huntington, WV, died Tuesday January 15, 2019 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Graveside funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday January 18, 2019 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Pastor Skip Seibel officiating. Jo was born August 9, 1933 in Washington, PA a daughter of the late Camp R. and Mildred Throckmorton Piper. She retired from the City of Huntington as City Clerk before moving to Tappahannock, VA. Jo and her husband Floyd were among the Charter members of the Tappahannock Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd G. Dowdy, two sons, Alan G. Dowdy and an infant son Michael Dowdy. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Robert Sliger and great granddaughter Carmen Hilling all of Huntington with whom she made her home, a sister-in-law, Kathleen Decker and nieces and nephews from Michigan and Maw Maws two boys Aiden and Tyler Tawney. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the wonderful staff at the Hospice House and a special thank you to Hospice home team of Yanet, Michelle and Cindy for their kind and loving care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Rd, Huntington, WV 25702. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:00 AM Friday at the cemetery.
