Obituary



James L. Hardiman, Sr., 79, of Prichard, WV, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday January 12, 2019. He was born December 29, 1939 in Eccles, WV, a son of the late Walter and Melba Dillon Hardiman. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and David Hardiman, son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kelly Perry Hardiman and a granddaughter, Mallory Hardiman. Jim was a retired antique dealer, establishing the founding store of Old Central City Antique District. He was a Kentucky Colonel and an Admiral in the Cherry River Navy. WSAZ also recognized him as a Hometown Hero. He was a former member of the Cabell County Democrat executive committee. Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors working on the family farm and was an avid reader of anything pertaining to history. He also enjoyed his teaching time on Wednesday nights with his church family at Florence Memorial United Methodist Church. He leaves behind his best friend, nurse and wife of 58 years, Ruth Hardiman, one brother, Phillip Hardiman (Donna), three sons, James II (Annie), John (Mary), and Tom (Lesley) Hardiman, one daughter, Cyndi (Tracey) Keith, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday January 15, 2019 at Florence Memorial United Methodist Church, Lavalette, with Pastor Greg Mullins and Bishop Frederick Hightower officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 1:00 PM at the church. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
