Cabell County
Doors to the Past

Obituary

L. Kathleen, (Kay) Patton Tardy, 87, of Russell, Ky, formerly of Huntington, WV, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while being surrounded by her family on Friday, January 4, 2019. Kay was born August 10th, 1931 in Cabell County, WV to the late Lacy Sr. and Anna Kathleen Childers Patton. She was preceded in death by a son, James C. Tardy of Ashland, KY and siblings Lacy Patton Jr., Joseph Patton, and Anne Lantz, all of Huntington. Kay was a 1949 graduate of Huntington High School, a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher of small children for 27 years. She retired from INCO-Special Metals where she worked as a secretary supervisor of women in the technology department. Kay loved spending her retirement days working outdoors in her yard while tending to her abundance of flowers that lined her driveway and home. She loved to take long walks absorbing God's creation whether in the woods or along the beach. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she felt that her four children were her greatest source of fulfillment. Words cannot express how much Kay will be missed by family and friends. Her intelligence, charm and ever present smile made everyone's day brighter. Her absence here on earth leaves an enormous, albeit temporary, void in our lives. Heaven is now her home and it is where we will be reunited with her for eternity. Left to cherish the memory of Kay are her husband of 68 years, James B. Tardy of Flatwoods, KY, formerly of Huntington; a son, J. Steve Tardy (Vicky) of Huntington, daughters, Jan C. Schmidt (Brad) of Mason, OH and Jennifer K. Watts (David) of Worthington, KY; grandchildren Gabby Veltheims, Shannon Mullis (Dan), Taylor Clarke (James), Lacey Tardy, Drew Tardy (Maggie), Eric Tardy, Wes Tardy (Ariel), Daniel Watts and Logan Watts (Lindsay); and great grandchildren Mason, Ryleigh, Cole, Ava, Claire and Rhodes. Also, many nieces and nephews. Dr. David Lemming will be officiating Kay's funeral service which will be held Monday, January 7th, 2019 at Chapman's Mortuary, 2851 3rd Avenue, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 pm with the funeral beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington, WV. The family would like to thank the employees of The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Russell and Community Hospice of Ashland for their outstanding care of Kay.
