Kenneth Gene Smith

Kenneth Gene Smith, 79, of Huntington, WV, departed this life on May 12, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. Mr. Smith was the son of Delmer and Audrey Bragg Smith. In addition to his parents, his wife, Carol King Smith; a sister, Opal and a brother, Merle, preceded him in death. Affectionately known as “Poppy” by his family and friends, he is survived by three brothers, James W. Smith of Huntington, Edwin Smith of Kentucky, and Charles “Donnie” Smith of Florida. He is also survived by son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuck” and Christina Smith of Indiana, a son James M. Smith of Kenova, daughter and son-in-law, Vicky “Sue” and Richard “Rick” Simmons of Huntington, son, Justin Smith of Huntington and daughter, Ashley Smith of Huntington; six grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Stacey Murphy, HM3 Richard G. Simmons U.S. Navy, Michael Smith, Kara Simmons, and Rebecca Smith; and two great grandchildren, Shawna and Brionna Murphy. Mr. Smith was a Cabell County School Bus Driver and retired form Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9738 and American Legion Post 16. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, May 16, 2011, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Bob Withers officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 9738. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Chapman’s Mortuary.
