Obituary



Henry William Nethercutt, 84, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Richard Glass officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, with military graveside rites conducted by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16. He was born June 19, 1933 in Cabell County, WV a son of the late John and Gertrude Canada Nethercutt. His wife, Darlene Ramey Nethercutt; eight siblings; and a daughter-in-law, Dawn Nethercutt, also preceded him in death. He was proud of being a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. While in the Army, he served a year in Thule, Greenland. He had an accounting degree and was a retired purchasing agent for the Huntington Veterans Administration Medical Center and formerly worked for the Herald-Dispatch and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He attended Twenty-Sixth Baptist Church and was an avid Marshall University fan. Henry was involved in his community, having served as a coach of D team at Beverly Hills Youth Football League and he was instrumental in establishing the E team in the 1970's. He was an umpire and also coached Steelworker's Local 40 baseball team. In his younger years, he played basketball and once played against the Globetrotters. He also coached a championship basketball team. He was a football referee for 30 years. Upon his retirement, he was honored as a Kentucky Colonel for his years as a referee. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. Survivors include: a daughter, Tara Maynard of Ironton, OH; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Curt and Erin Nethercutt of Barboursville, WV and Mark Nethercutt of Huntington; and seven grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Regan, Bryce, Jared, Brenley, and Greysen. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Chapman's Mortuary.
