C.D. "Doug" Duncan
(December 3, 1929 - December 19, 2011)



C.D. “Doug” Duncan, 82, of Huntington, WV, had his homecoming with the Lord and his beloved Mary Love and son, Larry K. Duncan on Monday, December 19, 2011, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. He was born December 3, 1929 in Gadsden, AL, a son of the late John Lewis and Otha Mae Lancaster Duncan. A sister and three brothers also preceded him. He was President at United Bank, having been in banking for over 57 years. He began as auditor for the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta, GA. Coming to Huntington in 1963, he worked for Huntington Trust & Savings Bank for 18 years, served as President of the Heritage Bank and then United Bank- making wonderful friendships all along the way. He was known for his friendliness, helpfulness, and integrity- a true gentleman who loved being around people. Doug graduated from Gadsden High School; received his Bachelors at the University of Georgia having been awarded Most Outstanding Student of his class; and earned Masters from the University of Wisconsin. Among his many accomplishments, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran stationed at Cape Canaveral working with radar in the missile program; he taught banking classes at Marshall University; he was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church; an avid golfer who golfed in college; a Kentucky Colonel; and a lifetime member of the Elks. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen “Micki” and Kent Briland of Huntington; four granddaughters, Sarah Briland and husband Ben of Richmond, VA, Marianne Swann and husband Jeremiah of North Charleston, SC, Ruth Briland of Columbus, OH, Jessica Kearns and husband Clint of Georgetown, KY; a daughter-in-law, Donna Brady Duncan of North Charleston, SC and her mother, Lois Brady, formerly of Barboursville, WV; three great-grandchildren, Addison Braxton Kearns, Natalie Rose Swann, and Katelyn Marie Swann; a sister, Louise White and her late husband, E.W. White of Sulphur, LA; and beloved nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Dr. Janet Wallace and caregivers Tracy Swimm, Vernon Black, Michael Swarzenski and the 4th floor St. Mary’s Nurses and Staff for their wonderful care. A victory celebration of his life will be conducted 7:00 PM Friday, December 23, 2011, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Jerry Hensley and Mildred Battle officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington at a later date. Friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Chapman’s Mortuary.
