Jessie Evelyn Fortner, 78, of Huntington, WV, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011, in Saint Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Chapman’s Mortuary, with Pastor Robert Ray officiating. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery Proctorville, Ohio. She was born August 4, 1933, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Russell and Anna Smoot Ellis. A sister, Betty Bruce and the father of her children, Wayne Fortner, Jr., also preceded her in death. She was a retired selector from Owens-Illinois Glass Manufacturing, and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Roger Ferguson of Salt Rock, WV, and Tammy and Greg Ballengee of Barboursville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rusty and Joyce Fortner, and Michael W. Fortner and Jeannie all of Huntington; four grandchildren, Scott Ballengee, Brooke Ballengee, Brittany Ballengee, and Kristen Fortner-Anderson.
