Obituary



Gladys Jarrell, 86, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Huntington Health and Rehab. She was born January 5, 1931 in Logan, WV a daughter of the late Elzie and Dora Mayhorne Brewer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leroy Pennington; her second husband, Walter Dyer; her third husband, Clarence R. Jarrell; a daughter, Janet Sue Pennington Dyer; and seven siblings. Gladys was a member of Eighteenth Street Baptist Church and formerly worked in food service at Marshall University and then as a caregiver. Survivors include: three daughters, Judith Ann King Dyer and Betty Jo Pennington Moses, both of Huntington and Dottie Nadine Pennington Bevins of Ona, WV; three sons, Robert Dean (Christine) Pennington of Lexington, KY, Landon Earl Jarrell of Huntington, and George Jeffrey Jarrell of Ceredo; three sisters, Barbara Blair, Lorene Thomas, and Helen Brewer, all of Williamson, WV; a brother, Charles Brewer of Williamson, WV; 17 grandchildren, including a special grandson, Nicholas Scott (Jessica) Pennington; 27 great grandchildren including her little checker playing partner, Lucas Pennington; and eight great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Keith Wiebe, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery Annex, Huntington.
