Obituary


Claude Gilliam 93, of Huntington, widower of Esta Irene Gilliam, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his residence. He was a US Navy veteran, retired as a yard conductor for the former CandO Railroad, and was Baptist by faith. Born June 3, 1924, in Wood, VA, he was the son of the late Columbus Tolbert and Anna Dockery Gilliam. A son, Raymond Keith Gilliam, and three siblings also preceded him in death. Survivors include: on daughter, Claudia Protzman of Huntington; grandchildren, Michelle Protzman of Lynchburg, VA, Amy Chisholm (C.R.) of Athens, GA, Matt Protzman (Crystal) of Leonardtown, MD; 4 great-grandchildren, Bailey and Tucker Protzman, and Thomas and George Chisholm. Special thanks to Dad's caregivers, Tina, Tangie, Jennifer and Mae for their wonderful care. Graveside services will be conducted 10:00am Wednesday, August 23 at the Woodmere Abbey of Remembrance, with Dr. David B. Lemming officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation.
