    Lloyd W. 
    Burks died suddenly on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011. He was 
    born on April 26, 1919 in Barboursville, WV, graduated from Huntington High 
    School, served with the United States Marines on Guam in WW II, and retired 
    from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company as a Labor Relations executive.
     
     
    During his career he represented the railroads of the northeastern part of 
    the United States on the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago, IL for 9 
    years. In that capacity he appeared before the U. S. Senate and met with two 
    U. S. Presidents.  
     
    In retirement Mr. Burks worked in his shop as an expert furniture restorer 
    and he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.  
     
    He was a life-long member of Baptist Temple, where, for many years, he 
    served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and teacher. He was active 
    in the Gyandotte Baptist Association.  
     
    Mr. Burks was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Yvonne Smith Burks, 
    and twin sons William Jonathan and James Lloyd. He is survived by daughter, 
    Kathie Metz and her husband, Adam Daniel Metz II, of Cockeysville, MD; 
    grandchildren Michael J. Metz and his wife, Amy; Amy Metz Voytek and her 
    husband, William J.; Joseph D. Metz and his wife, Carrie; and 
    great-grandchildren Emily Anne, John Lloyd, and Charles Adam Metz and 
    Courtney Voytek. He was lovingly cared for in Huntington by brother- and 
    sister-in-law J. Roger and Pamela “Jinx” Smith and their family.  
     
    The family will receive friends at Chapman Mortuary, 2851 Third Avenue, on 
    Thursday, April 28, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral service 
    will be at Baptist Temple, Ninth Avenue at Twenty-first Street on Friday, 
    April 29, at 10:30 AM. with Rev. J. Andrew Magnusson officiating. Committal 
    will immediately follow the service at Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, the 
    family requests memorial contributions be made to Baptist Temple, Ninth 
    Avenue at Twenty-first Street, Huntington, WV 25703.
