M. Maxine Cummings Kinzer

M. MAXINE CUMMINGS KINZER, 87, of Huntington, WV, died April 6th at home. Funeral services will be conducted at Chapman’s Mortuary on Monday at 2:00 p.m, with Rev. Kevin Snow officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens off Washington Blvd. Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday evening at the mortuary. The second of three children born to Frank E. and Urna Cummings – Marrs, Maxine graduated from Guyan Valley High School in 1941 and began a distinguished career as an office administrator and executive assistant. Her assignments included: Island Creek Coal Company, Appalachian Power, United Fuel Gas Company, Huntington Urban Renewal and culminated as a personal secretary to Dr. Robert B. Hayes, former President of Marshall University (1974 -1983). An avid flower arranger, she was awarded in “Best in Show” by the Huntington Garden Club two consecutive years. Her artistic talents also included the creation of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art and highly prized seasonal ceramic pieces. She is survived by her husband Carl D. Kinzer, Sr., a son - Carl D. “Chip” Kinzer, Jr. and daughter-in-law Waraporn Kinzer of Nashville, TN, a granddaughter – Brittany Kinzer Hann of Barboursville, WV, a great-granddaughter – Madison Wilson of Huntington, a great-grandson Kaden Hann of Huntington and four nephews; Frank B. Cummings of Asheville, NC, Anthony, Andrew and John Hill of Teays Valley, Barboursville and St. Albans respectively. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Maxine’s honor to the Marshall University Foundation.
