Mrs. Hartie L. Sheets, 92, of Huntington, went to be with her Lord, after a brief illness, Friday April 1, 2011 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday April 5, 2011 at Spring Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Paul Meadows and Rev. Tim Arthur officiating, and with music being provided by Ernie Ritchie. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, near the Marshall Memorial. She was born in Harrison Twp, Gallia County, March 3, 1919, the only child of the late William C and Velvie ( Wetherholt) Trotter. She was preceded in death by her husband; of 69 years, Robert F. Sheets, who passed away July 24, 2002. She became a Christian as a young child, and became a member of Providence Baptist Church, in Gallia County, OH, where she later served as a pianist and Sunday School teacher, and other various departments of the church. After their marriage, she and her family moved to Huntington, WV, due to her husband’s occupation. They joined the 26th Street Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher, and later as Superintendent of the Junior department, and was a member of the Women’s Mission. She was a graduate of the former Martz Beauty School, and later worked as a licensed Beautician in her aunt’s beauty shop. She worked at this profession for a few years and quit to become a fulltime mother and homemaker. She is survived by her only child and her husband, Carolyn (Jack) Vallance of Huntington, with whom she made her home for the last two and a half years. There will be no visitation, as per her request. The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Dannals, and Dr. Michael Collins, of HIMG and the nurses on 4th floor telemetry, and the 3rd floor CCU at St. Mary’s Medical Center and all others who provided care and compassion at time of need. Chapman’s Mortuary is assisting the family.
