son of the late Dwight E. and Evelyn Blanche Smoot. He was the co-owner of
Smoot Brothers Painting Contractors, which served Huntington and the
surrounding areas for many years, a proud member of Community of Grace
United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, and a member of the
Singing Kernels of Ashland, KY. Survivors include his wife of 50 years,
Penelope (Penny) Heironimus Smoot, his son Richard Keith Smoot, Jr., both of
Huntington; two daughters, Katherine Lynne Weir (Dan) of Charlotte, NC, and
Jennifer Ann White (Scott) of Huntington; four grandchildren, Mitchell and

brothers-in-law, Richard and Staurt Heironimus. He was a beloved uncle who
leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Dick will be remembered by his family
and friends for so many things, his quiet strength, his faith, his indulgent
love for his children and grandchildren, his willingness to help others, his
incredible work ethic, his sense of humor and his love of singing. He was an
honorary son to some of the very special ladies he worked for, and a
surrogate father to several young people. A loving husband, a wonderful
father, and the best "Popall" in the world, his legacy will live on in the
lives of all that he touched. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday,
