Obituary

Perry Donald Jones, husband of Deloris "Jeannie" Jones, born October 8, 1931 to Ida Johnson Jones and Benjamin Smiley Jones, joined his heavenly Father on December 17, 2018. He was a true southern gentleman of character and compassion. He was a man of faith that loved God and his family. He especially adored his wife of 57 years. Perry believed in professionalism, hard work, fairness and was respected by all that knew and worked with him. He led by example, showing unconditional love, understanding, selfless generosity and kindness. He was a decorated member of the US Air Force for 23 years. The majority of his military career was spent in Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Safety. He retired as CMSgt--the youngest to ever obtain this rank. He spent 17 years with the US Department of Labor OSHA, the last seven as Area Director. He worked tirelessly to advance safety for state workers and to improve the image of OSHA in WV. He established and ran his own Safety Consulting firm for 10 years. He was a graduate of WV State College and post-graduate student at Marshall University, where he routinely served as guest lecturer, and was awarded Honorary Faculty Status by The Safety Technology Program.  He is preceded in death by brothers, Clifton Jones, Hunter Jones, Marlin Jones, Charlie Jones, Benjamin Jones, Collie Jones, Smiley Jones, Durell Jones, Edgar Jones, sister Nancy Houston and brother-in-law Tommy Bays. He is survived by his loving wife Jeannie Jones, two daughters Tanya Bobo (Steve) and Marisa Main (Harry); three grandchildren Cassie Mason (Bob), Michael Hooser, Jessica Guill (Cameron); two great-grandchildren Cole and Jade Guill; three sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy Price (Doug), Margaret Mai (Don), Glenda Underwood (James); Eddie Bays (Tommie Ann), Dale Bays (Donna), Nell Jones, and many nieces, nephews and many close friends, especially Dr Bob and Tammy Walker whom he considered family. He loved his family with all his heart, and they loved him dearly. His spirit, soul and generous heart continue.  Services will be held at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church in Huntington, WV Thursday December 20, 2018; officiated by Rev. Angela Gay Kinkead. Visitation from 4-6:00 pm, service at 6:00 pm, followed by a reception at the church. A military burial will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, WV Friday at 10:00 am.
