Obituary



Mauda Sperry, 97, widow of Harold Sperry, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 15, 2018. She was born August 11, 1921, in Wayne County, WV, a daughter of the late Charlie and Kizzie Ross Maynard. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Billy Ray Sperry and Samuel Sperry; two grandchildren, Billie Ann Sperry and Bobby McKnight; three sisters, Ruby Watts, Leota Wiley and Pavelo Maynard, and one brother, Cletis Maynard. She was a longtime member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, and was co-owner of Bridges and Sperry Construction Company. After the passing of her husband in 1972, she was a manager of White Way Cleaners. Mauda was blessed with a large loving family. She was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Sandee (Thurman) Burns, and Patti (Gary)McMullen; two adopted daughters, Jenny (Phillip) Gilmore and Samantha (Robert) White; sister Rosalee Dickerson and three brothers, Johnny, Eugene and Bobby Maynard; grandchildren, Christin (Terri) Hughes, Julie (Jason) Akers, John (Julie) Burns, James (Kate) McMullen, Timothy (Jennifer) Burns; great-grandchildren, Marlee, Anna Leigh and Lauren Gilmore, Emily and Evan Akers, Kelsey (Chris) Brown, Katie, Olivia and Ella Burns, Isaiah and Kayson Burns, Ellianah, Elijah and Evelyn McMullen; and eight great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Chapman's Mortuary, with Dr. David B. Lemming, and Pastor Nathan McClay officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
