Miss Peggy Lee Kirk, 76, of Leland, NC passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at home after an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Monsignor Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV. She was born June 4, 1942 in Salt Rock, WV, a daughter of the late Acie E. and Ruby Fay Holley Kirk. Her step-father, John H. Bays, a great nephew, Thomas Frederick Bates and a brother-in-law, Fred L. Davis, Sr., also preceded her in death. Peggy was a 1960 graduate of Huntington East High School, and a 1964 graduate of Marshall University. She taught from 1964 to 1968 at St. Francis De Salles High School, Powhatan, VA. From 1968 to 2003, she taught at Bishop Dennis J. O'Connell High School, Arlington, VA. During her years at O'Connell, she taught Health, Physical Education, Drivers Education, and Business Principles. She also coached girls' basketball, soccer and softball. She became Director of Admissions in 1987 and retired from that position in 2003. In 2007, Peggy relocated to Leland, NC. She continued to help others by volunteering at the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary, Wilmington, NC. Survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law; caregiver, Patricia M. Kirk of Leland, NC, Delores A. Davis and Phyllis K. Wilcox (Damon) all of Huntington; one niece, Heather D. Bates of Pendleton, IN; two nephews and their spouses, Capt. J P Wilcox (USN) and Missy of San Diego, CA; and Fred L. Davis, Jr. and Becki, of Huntington; 5 great nieces, Holly Bates, Chloe Wilcox, Caitlyn Wilcox, Samantha Davis and Ginny Noble; one great-nephew, Jacob Davis. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, December 14, at the funeral home.
